Stay

We suggest staying in the historic downtown area (“Centro”) for optimal walkability and close proximity to restaurants and activities. Centro makes a great home base with plenty of hotels and B&Bs to choose from, including the following options:

NaNa Vida Hotel Boutique
Murguía 405-Int.1, RUTA INDEPENDENCIA, Centro, 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez

A room block is available at Nana Vida Boutique Hotel. Kindly note the wedding rate is available until October 17, 2026. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and feature art and decor from local artists and artisans. To book, please email oaxaca@nanavida.com and cc oaxacadestinationweddings@gmail.com. Be sure to include that you are part of the Hill-Kornberg wedding group.

Casa Carmen Reforma
Reforma 600-A, RUTA INDEPENDENCIA, Centro, 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez

An art-filled boutique hotel owned and designed by the Mexican painter Amador Montes (Carmen was the name of his late mother). Highly recommend and includes a delicious Mexican breakfast! There are 2 other locations as well, Xólotl and Morelos, both of which are also within Centro. Book directly on their website or on Booking.com.

Quinta Real Oaxaca
5 de Mayo 300, RUTA INDEPENDENCIA, Centro, 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez

A restored 16th century convent now operating as a hotel. Has multiple courtyards and a pool, making it a great option for families. Rumor has it that a network of underground tunnels connects the hotel to the nearby Santo Domingo Church. Book directly on their website or on Booking.com.

Other great options: Casa Antonieta, Pug Seal Oaxaca, Hotel Sin Nombre, and more!

Getting There

Flying

There are flights to Oaxaca International Airport (OAX) from a few hubs in the US, including Houston and LA. Most flights will connect through Mexico City.

Getting Around

The airport is a 20-25 minute drive from Centro. We suggest taking a taxi or arranging private transportation. There is no Uber or Lyft in Oaxaca.

To hire a taxi to your hotel:

  • Exit the airport and go to one of the official taxi counters.

  • Tell them your hotel name. (Tip: before arrival, screenshot your hotel address, as cell signal at the airport can be unreliable.)

  • Pay a fixed rate. Credit card payment is possible at the taxi counters, or you can withdraw pesos from the airport ATM.

  • You’ll receive a ticket and your assigned driver.

To hire private transportation, either arrange through your hotel or book with our recommended car service, Transportación en Oaxaca Ejecutiva. They can be reached at +52 (951) 517 2039 or conoce_oaxaca@hotmail.com.

Once in Centro, walking is the best way to get around and experience the city! For short and medium distances, Centro is safe and pleasant both day and night. As in any other city, avoid walking late at night on your own and stick to well-lit streets.

For longer distances or very late-night outings, take one of the yellow taxis. These are safe and affordable, although typically cash-only.

Note that transportation will be provided to/from the venue on the day of the wedding.

Travel Tips

  • Bring Mexican pesos, or withdraw at ATMs in Centro.

  • Screenshot your hotel address prior to arrival as cell signal at the airport can be unreliable.

  • Drink only bottled water, even for brushing your teeth.

  • Pack layered clothing — the days are warm while the nights are cool.

  • Wear comfortable shoes — expect cobblestone streets and lots of walking when in Centro.

  • Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat — the weather is dry and sunny.

  • The street food is good, but stick to recommended restaurants or fondas if you have a sensitive tummy — this way you stay safe and enjoy without worrying.

  • Tipping: 10-15% for restaurants; rounding up is typically enough for taxis.
